About the Play
The Vikings The Runes The Art of Sejd The Gods The Sigurd Saga The Inscription

In Swedish

Sigurd Fafnisbane

(Sigurd the Dragonslayer)

a drama from the time of the Vikings and about the legend cut on the Sigurd-inscription, one of the most notable runic inscription in the Nordic countreis.

"... evil and sudden death, treachery between brothers and parricide,
the history of the sword and intrigues.
Cowardice and deeds of violence in its track,
as so often happens when gold shows the way.
Look into the ring!"

This year (2001) the newly founded idealistic association Föreningen Sigurdspelet (Sigurd's drama Association) assumed the responsibility for the drama from the theatre company Theorikateatern. The play opened in 1997 and since has been performed about 50 times. The play is written and directed by Theresia Holmstedt-Jensen. Föreningen Sigurdspelet is dedicated to this play, and the intention is to give about five performances per year in an enclosed pasture just outside Eskilstuna. Special performances of the play, both in Swedish and English, can be arranged at a stage of your choice. For more information about the drama and/or the association click here!

To my good friends
Ella and Bob Travis in Boulder, Co:

A thousand thank's for your help in getting the English gammar and spelling correct!

The runes tells us:"Sigrid, Alrik's mother, Orm's daughter, had this bridge built for her husband Holmger, Sigröd's fathers soul."
